Revenge of the fixed line

Faced with smartphones "hyper-intelligent" type of iphone, Blackberry or other Windows Phone, the good old fixed line seems to pales. Once connected, it should work and you just ask him to call you then you say "anyway, all the intelligence is in the PABX / iPbx, then buy as many basic low cost to achieve maximum savings positions" ? Serious mistake !

Interoperability problems

Firstly because if you are still TDM (there are ), you 're likely to be locked by proprietary protocols , specific manufacturers Pabx ( Aastra , Cisco, Alcatel , Avaya, Siemens ... ) . Result , if you choose a different than your PABX phone brand, you probably always be able to call but you will definitely lose feature (sometimes major as call forwarding, filtering boss / secretary , access to the directory ... ). If you have migrated to VoIP (the trend), standard protocols H323, MGCP or SIP even better, you are supposed to deliver signage owners. Distributors then push you to choose any position and market your CFO eyeing the Chinese positions 20 euros ? When a new error ! The standard is a path whose manufacturers often differ according to their interpretations.

SIP is not a panacea

Yet SIP should solve all these problems , but the service catalog swells and drifts interpretations are legion. We see it every day when testing and validations performed in our labs , interoperability problems remain: some voice stream does not pass during transfers of calls, off-net communications are not successful or access directories do not work. Worse , SIP is accompanied by an ecosystem of faults. The system more open, is also more vulnerable to attack, sometimes with serious consequences for the activity (Case communications, records conversations , DOS attacks ... ).

The intelligence migrates posts

Far from being a neutral element , the fixed position becomes increasingly the cornerstone of the telephone system; it is in a private environment ( network PABX ) or connected to a public network (offers Centrex ). Intelligence withdraws more of network to the station , making it a focal element of increasingly complex . And this is even more true when it enriches advanced features such as video telephony or web browser. Do not forget also that this post Business can also be Wifi ( ToWifi ) and replace the DECT ; or even some smartphones integrate SIP clients and can thus replace traditional mail. The headache of interoperability arises for manufacturers , pushed into their R & D not only by companies ( eager competition ) but also by the operators ( in search of plurality in their offerings ). And they are busy !

An interoperability label

We tested the LG posts, Tandberg , Depaepe , ... Alcatel PBX and softswitch on the European market ( Aastra , Alcatel, Siemens , Avaya, Cisco , Asterisk , Microsoft ...) but also at the request of manufacturers of IP PBX and since bit operators. We diagnose and analyze the problems of interoperability and deliver our recommendations to clients.
Our approach is performed in several stages by IP PBX :

  •     The test plan
  •     Test sessions
  •     Analysis of failed tests
  •     Producing a test report
  •     Report Writing Certification
  •     A test session of the limited fixes a firmware

Our tests take place in 3 families, first integration tests and Tests "core functions " and Tests " advanced features ".
We analyze the failed tests ( Traces, analysis and diagnosis) and we give our recommendations.
On average , we identify 3 or 4 per system functionality problems . Fortunately, not all are visible to the user. We are thus now able to publish a label for manufacturers who have consulted us. This ensures not only for himself but also for corporate clients and operators. This " insurance " and allows full use of the many powerful features of VoIP systems , including telephony, video and unified communications.
We give and acclaim in telephone too often regarded as the poor relation of telephone systems.
